DOUBLE ACTION PIVOTS AND EMERGENCY RELEASES
Doors which ordinarily open in one direction only, but which are required to open in the opposite direction in certain situations, can be fitted with a pivot and emergency release bolt or stop.
The situation might arise, for example, in relation to an inward opening door to a wheelchair accessible WC. It is important that the door can be opened outward in the event that someone falls against the back of the door; if the person looses consciousness or is unable to move themselves the only way of gaining access is through a double action pivot set. In addition all locks and indicator bolts should incorporate an emergency release facility.
Approved Document “M” states with relation to this situation “Preferably, all doors to WC cubicles and wheelchair-accessible unisex toilets open out or, if they open in, the door swing should not encroach into the wheelchair turning space or minimum activity space”, in addition “WC compartment doors, and doors to wheelchair-accessible unisex toilets, changing rooms or shower rooms have an emergency release mechanism so that they are capable of being opened outwards, from the outside in case of emergency”.
The problem with outward opening doors is that they can be dangerous if opening into a corridor or fire escape route. The Double Action Pivot Set eliminates this danger.
HI-LOAD Anti-ligature hinges are designed to prevent a ligature being gained either over the hinge knuckle OR between the door leaf and frame (when the door is closed).
The RT Anti-ligature hinges are based on the tried and tested H102 and H125. Both of the above come inclusive of standard screws as well as four Resistorx screws, which screw through the security faceplate and the hinge leaf creating a highly tamper resistant and anti-ligature unit.
Two HI-LOAD concealed fixing’s hinges have been developed to meet the growing requirement for a minimalist aesthetic by Architects and specifiers alike, both in terms of the projection of the hinge knuckle and the look of the hinge leaves. These hinges have a coverplate hiding the screws, each plate itself is secured by 2 small countersunk hex key bolts. The hinge is also recessed to hide most of the knuckle.
HI-LOAD hinges are tested with the fixings supplied. Any substitution of these fixings may affect final performance. Most are suitable for fire doors, are Certifire approved, CE marked and conform to BS EN 1935
